Fire alarm systems

Initial Fire offers effective fire risk reduction with scalable alarm solutions. Whatever the size of your business or type of operation, you can have complete confidence that Initial Fire will provide the best solution for you.

Our solution

We specialize in the meticulous planning, design, and maintenance of fire alarm systems. At Initial Fire & Electrical, our experienced team is dedicated to installing professional open protocol analogue, conventional, and wireless systems for residential, commercial, and industrial applications.

We maintain a close working relationship with equipment manufacturers to ensure the highest quality standards for the systems we install. Our commitment lies in supplying and installing UK-manufactured open protocol fire detection and alarm systems. This provides our customers with the reassurance that their system is not tied to a single organization or service provider.

As an independent, local company based in Wolverhampton, we proudly offer fire systems in Staffordshire, Midlands, and throughout the UK.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 mandates that all business premises must be equipped with appropriate fire detectors and alarms. Automatic fire detection systems are also required in certain circumstances, such as locations where people sleep.

Installation and servicing

At Initial Fire & Electrical, we offer comprehensive services for fire alarm system and emergency lighting testing and servicing, adhering to BS5839 Part1: 2017 (Fire Alarm Systems). Our expert team will advise you on the necessary level of protection required for your business, including fire detectors, alarms, and emergency lighting, to meet the required standards.

We can supply or provide lockable red metal cabinets near your fire alarm panel or office reception. These cabinets, equipped with integral key racks, are ideal for storing important safety information, fire log books, and site plans. Additionally, we can assist with arranging a Zone Plan and bespoke photoluminescent for your premises, as required by BS5839-1:2017.

Choosing the right fire alarm

The design and type of fire alarm system for a building depend on its structure, usage, and current regulations. New and altered buildings require approval from the local building control, while existing buildings (excluding domestic premises) must comply with The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and undergo a fire risk assessment. This assessment helps determine the appropriate system type based on the identified risks, following the relevant British Standard guidelines.

There are three main types of fire alarm systems:

Conventional fire alarm

  • Divides your premises into broad zones.
  • In the event of an alert, the fire alarm panel identifies the zone but not the precise area.
  • Most suitable for smaller or lower-risk environments.

Addressable fire alarm

  • Each individual device has its own unique electronic address.
  • If one device activates, the fire alarm panel precisely identifies the location of the problem.
  • Most suitable for larger or higher-risk environments, such as schools, care homes, and hospitals.

Wireless fire alarm

  • Utilizes a secure wireless link between the sensors and the fire alarm panel.
  • Works similarly to an addressable system, but without the need for wires.
  • Particularly suitable for premises like construction sites and historic buildings where cables may be intrusive.
